We expect that many subscribers will be about to enjoy a well-earned Christmas break in the enveloping warmth of home and family. This reminded us of German composer Max Reger, who spent time in his younger days on the organ bench of his home church of St Michael's Church in Weiden, also composing a number of works associated with the church's Christmas seasons. This month's first choice of a free album download presents a number of those works performed on the instrument designed and installed by the Weimbs organ builders in the church some twenty years ago to honour the composer, naming it the Max Reger Memorial Organ. We also have a delightful programme of 20th-century carols by British composers, and a set of concerti grossi with links to the Christmas period, not least through their pastorale and siciliano movements, reflecting the shepherds' scene of the Nativity story.
